  1. Language Geek - Princeton Russian in a zip file Says:
[...] Harold let me know that the Princeton Russian course, which I had made a torrent file for, is now available as a zip file from freelanguagecourses.com. I can assure you from experience that getting it from that site will be 1) much faster and 2) much less hassle, than it would be if you got it via the torrent.  You can locate the zip file link here; just pay attention to the stipulations for the download. (Basically, contact the creator and let him know you’re using it.) [...]

Hi, I am having difficulties opening downloading this course. I have already sent the author the required email as per your instructions, but when I either 1.) click on the zip file link, the page comes up with a “taking too much time to respond” page or if I 2.) right-click the link for a direct download, none of the course content downloads at all.

    Any suggestions?

I shall be visiting Russia in 2009 on a cultural trip. One can get a lot more out of such a trip if one knows at least the elements of the language of a country one visits. After such trips, I got hooked on some languages and I am able to make simple conversation in several of them.

  50. Robert Says:
The download took most of a day, and then the unzip screws up even a Mac. Installation was therefor not possible. Do not bother with this course unless/until the compression problem is fixed. It is not worth the time and frustration. Uncompressing works right up to the end, and you will think you have mastered it, but then the app goes into an endless loop that locks up your computer and you have to crash it.
  51. James Says:
I downloaded his (on a mac) a few days ago without any problem. Everything has been great so far.

  66. Rudy Braendli Says:
    Dear Sirs

I’m working with your stupendous Russian course (princeton_course.zip), along my Russian lessons at a school here in Winterthur, Switzerland. I do especially appreciate the use of every day language in it (audios).

Now I tried to insert some additional text (meaning, perfective verbs, …, etc.), with the touch-up tool of Acrobat Professional, but you seem to use some other system font than I do and therefore, the programm did not accept my changes. Therefore I kindly ask you to send me the font in use – which I can install on my Macintosh.

    Thanks and best regards
    Rudy

This work has been put to the public so that everyone can learn Russian. I dedicate this work to Stalin and my mother, who helped me when I was a child.

  74. Song Ki Moon Says:
I don’t really like sloppy work, and this course is a perfect example of it. A sloppy way of putting together the course. Just because people distribute stuff for free shouldn’t mean they should make it as if they are producing crap out of their anus. I have to say that this course is the worst of the lot. I mean, how is it possible that I haven’t learn more than 10 words in 1 month now? I have dedicated half an hour each week for this crap.. I want my time back!
  75. John Higgins Says:

  88. Toni Says:
“there is 2 missing chapter 27 and 29. how possible to get them as i think very important (i check that in the summary)”

    Elias,

The “missing” lesson 27 is actually the first part of the Sara story (as you can see if you look at the vocabulary list provided in lesson 33 and the vocabulary list of Sara story 1). Lesson 28 also seems to pick up from lesson 26. So nothing is actually missing, although I haven’t quite worked out yet what is supposed to replace lesson 29.

Also, thank you Mr. Freedel! Your course is absolutely the best available for learning Russian!

  89. Liz Says:
I am a retired teacher . For the past three years have been teaching myself Russian using any resources I can get my hands on – Pimsleur, Penguin Russian course, Schramm, Idiot’s Guide – in short, any textbook old or new that I could lay my hands on. By far your course has been the MOST helpful of any I have encountered. I love your clear and methodical explanations, the profusion of examples you provide, and most of all, your whimsical sense of humor, as appealing to a 65 year old as to the college students for which your course was designed. I also listen to the audio portion for one or two hours a day on my iPod touch, a great way keep those voices floating through the brain. I have picked up three Russian friends in our area for informal “lessons,” and also spent several weeks in the country last fall. Your course has given me a plan for these lessons (I decode Sara with my friends’ help), and it also enabled me to make a stab at conversation with the Russian family I stayed with for five days in Novgorod. I simply can’t thank you enough for making this valuable resource available for FREE!
  90. Timea Says:
Hello!I’m from Hungary and it is difficult to find a really good book to learn russian.I was so disappointed untill I have find this!It is super! So thanks very much!
  91. Guillem Says:
Wow, I’m really grateful for the materials. I’m a writer and translator based in Berlin. I used to study Russian back in high school because a few of my friends were from southern Russia. My passive knowledge of the language is quite good but I can barely speak it, and now that the possibility of visiting Russia has arised I intend to learn it thoroughly.
  92. army Says:
thank u for your sharing but i have a problem 3 pdf lessons in chapter 1 (4-5-6) is missing…is there a way to solve this problem???
  93. Anton Says:
Thanks for making this great self learning resource available to everyone on the internet. I’ve been using your material the last couple of years and have benefited enormously using it as my main source of learning Russian and the audio which comes with your course is awesome.

I’ve learned so much that I’ve decided to share what I’ve learnt on my website.

Cheers and may god bless you.

  94. joe Says:

Army, those lessons aren’t missing from my version of the course. You could try to download the course from another source (it has been uploaded to some torrent sites).
