This method has my vote! It is not fancy and it does not try to sell you anything. It is actually a university online course, for free! The sound quality is not Chinesepod but it is a full course with a proper structure, something definitely missing in many online language tool. Furthermore you have the choice between pinyin, simplified and traditional character for each dialogue.

More impressive is the fact that the dialogues are actually close to what I hear in the street (here in China). It is a nice change from idiotic dialogue that try to teach you something that is so far from reality that you will never actually use it.

I first I was a bit confused by the website. So here is a little tip about how to use the website when your Chinese is as poor as mine. First browse the website in the English version and when you reached the lesson/dialogue you want to study switch between pinyin, traditional or simplified (top left corner, just below the home button). For the total beginners you can switch back to English/pinyin whenever you want by clicking the buttons in the same place. Below is a translation of the buttons. It should help even the most basic student to find their way around! And for the other buttons, do like me… try them!
繁体 / Fan ti / Traditional character
简体 / Jian ti / Simplified
英语 / ying yu / English
    拼音 / Pinyin

Sounds interesting! I guess most people would prefer to learn Chinese from Pinyin as a start.
